Functional genomics of insects of medical and agricultural relevance
Identification and functional characterization of molecular markers for sorting males and females Bactrocera dorsalis flies to allow the early separation of the sexes. B. dorsalis is a fruit fly of the family of the Tephritidae diffused mainly in Asia and Africa and, since it lay eggs in the fruit of several plants, it cause economical problems in agriculture. Developing a rapid sexing technique is possible the application of the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT).This methodology is based on the release of sterile males in order to interfere the ordinary reproduction cycle of the fly in the environment with the aim of reducing the population of the pest.
