Ferraro research activity
My research aims to study the biological activity of resveratrol and its synthetic analogue, 4-4 'dihydroxy-trans-stilbene, in vitro and in vivo.
After having studied the antiproliferative activity of the synthetic in cancer cells by comparing it with that of the natural compound, I worked to clarify the mechanism of action of 4-4 'dihydroxy-trans-stilbene investigating the protein levels of certain proteins involved in the replication cycle of mammary adenocarcinoma cells (MCF-7). From these investigations, I found that the synthetic analogue exhibits antiproliferative activity higher than the natural compound and a different mechanism of action. Now, the second phase of my project is ongoing and has the purpose to assess the anticancer effects of 4.4'-dihydroxy-trans-stilbene in an experimental animal model consisting of C57 mice inoculated with transplantable tumor cells LLC1 (Lewis Lung carcinoma), previously cultivated in culture.
