Lomoio research activity
Research experience and interest:
For the study of neurodegeneration in the central nervous system in Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease the Ts65Dn and the APP/PS1 mice have been used. In particular, cerebellar abnormalities and Purkinje cells alterations in adult Ts65Dn mice have been correlated with the onset of sporadic tremors and motor coordination failure in these animals. At present, the interest is addressed to the role of stress activated kinases, tau hyperphosphorilation, beta-amiloyd overload and ubiquitin-proteasome system impairment in Purkinje cell degeneration in the cerebellum of adult-aging Ts65Dn mice.
Technical experience:
Morphological and morphometric methods, cytochemistry, immunocytochemistry, Western blot analysis, image analysis applied to the study of nervous tissue.
