Laboratory experience

1st November 2009 to present: work on DNA repair and oxidative stress studying the role of plant topoisomerase I and Tyrosyl DNA phosphodiesterase with particular attention to model legume Medicago truncatula. I’m using different approaches to evaluate gene expression DNA repair ability and antioxidant response. One of main task is production of transgenic plants as working model.
1st December 2008 to 31st July 2009: Ph.D. Student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Molecular Recognition group (Department of Ultrastructural Biology) under the supervision of Prof. Remy Loris. Title of the project: “Structural and Biophysical characterization of Staphylococcus aureus toxin-antitoxin module MazEF”

January 2007 to July 2008: Post-graduate Student. Thesis work on oxidative stress
and nucleus in plant model system, carrot and poplar under the supervision of Doc. A. Balestrazzi, in the “laboratory of plant biotechnology” of the University of Pavia. Principal investigator: Prof. D. Carbonera September 2005 to May 2006: Undergraduate Researcher. Thesis work, under the
supervision of Prof. G. Valentini, in the “Laboratory of functional and structural biochemistry of proteins” of the University of Pavia. Thesis title: “Adenilato cinasi deficiency: caratterizzazione biochimica di due varianti patologiche, R128W e D140del” (Adenylate kinase deficiency: biochemical characterization of two pathological variants, R128W and D140del).

Technical Skills:
Protein Expression, Crystallographic Screening, Western Blotting, Dynamic Light Scattering, Gene Synthesis, Mutagenesis, PCR, Purification of proteins, Southern Blot, Spectrophotometric techniques, FPLC chromatography, Protein electrophoresis in polyacrylamide, Molecular cloning, in vitro plant manipulation, Agrobacterium mediated plant transformation, qRT-PCR, DNA-RNA extraction, Single Cell Gel electrophoresis.
