Guaman research activity

Search for plant compounds with potential antitumoral activity
The research that I’m doing in the IGM, in the “Biología Moleculare e Cellulare del Nucleo” is about compounds of plants with possible anticancer activity. The aim is to find out the cytotoxic responses to these compounds on the several human cells cancer through in vitro assays. These compounds are mainly from plants because the responses are less dangerous for the normal cells. In the chemotherapy, the major part of the antineoplastic pharms is from plants.
I’m going to research either in Ecuador in the Cellular and Molecular Biologic Center, of the “Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja”. In this laboratory I am working with the similar aims because in Ecuador there are a lot of plants with pharmaceutical purposes, and the team that I work with is researching the antiproliferative effects on the human cancer cells.
In this period I’m going to work with the Berberine’s derivatives from Naxospharma laboratory, on human colon tumor cells to find out whether these compounds could have an anticancer activity. The first step is make a viability assay to evaluate what of all of these compounds has the most anticancer activity, making an screaning and discard the ones with no activity. Then, the aim of those assays is to know the IC50 and exposure to the cells to those concentrations the findout the death pathway and the possible action mechanism.
