The research activity of my PhD will deal with the analysis of normal and pathological variation of human mitochondrial DNA, which plays a central role in many physiological functions and also serves as genetic and chronological marker to infer data on human origin and migrations.
During the first year of my PhD I will also analyze recently published data on nuclear genome sequences form Neandertals and Denisovans. The aim of my research will be to search for possible markers of introgression from archaic to modern humans among worldwide modern human populations.
