Garbin research activity
Main research topics:
- genetic characterization of cancer and postoperative patients treated with opioids. The study is part of a collaborative project with the IRCCS-Policlinico San Matteo of Pavia (Servizio di Anestesia e Rianimazione I e Tecniche Antalgiche and Unitą di Farmacocinetica Clinica) and the Department of Experimental Pharmacology of the University of Pavia. The purpose of the study is to correlate clinical, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic data with genetic results, in order to identify correlations between the genotypes and the response to opioid treatment and, hence, to improve pain management
- genetic characterization of COMT and APOE allelic variant in a group of Alzheimer’s disease patients, a group of MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) patients and a control group. The purpose of our work is to identify risk variants for susceptibility to Alzheimer's disease. This project is the result of a collaboration with the working group of Professor S. Govoni of the Department of Experimental Pharmacology of the University of Pavia.
